Slutty vegan restaurant review

As more and more people are becoming plant based, the demand for veg-friendly restaurants is rapidly increasing. Many omnivores that may be skeptical about the lifestyle or what foods it actually entails, would be surprised to know it’s more than just salads, smoothies and quinoa (all of which I truly love). As a foodie myself, I’m always down to check out a new restaurant or cuisine that has vegan options, but especially so when the whole menu is up for grabs! One of the hottest spots right now in Atlanta is Slutty Vegan and I finally got to check them out! Here’s a little bio on them from their website:

“Slutty Vegan was founded the summer of 2018 by Pinky Cole. Having established roots in the West End community of Atlanta, we have made it our mission to provide quality vegan meals to communities that would have otherwise never had these options. The philosophy here at Slutty Vegan is “VEGANS CAN BE SLUTTY TOO”. We actively seek to dismiss the notion held by many we serve, that vegan food is either too expensive or too bland.”

My husband and I decided to go out to Slutty Vegan for dinner one Friday night. Since it was still during rush hour, we hoped that maybe the wait wouldn’t be as long as what we’d heard. It’s located in the Westview neighborhood of the West End. Just a heads up— Slutty Vegan is located within a strip of other restaurants and businesses where they do not have their own designated parking. It’s street parking only, which ended up not being too bad.

Once we found parking a short walk away, we got in what was already quite a long line. This was expected at least to some extent as we had heard this was the norm. After the first 30 minutes we thought okay, what’s another 30? Mind you it was particularly cold that night, somewhere in the low 30s. We were bundled up, but still when a cool breeze would hit our face-whew! Then 1 hour had gone by...an hour and a half..and at this point, to be honest we considered leaving. However, we had already invested this much time and knew that whether we stayed or came back another time, the wait probably wouldn’t change much. So we stuck it out and ended up waiting around 2 to 2 and half hours. I think at some point we tried to stop paying attention to the exact time we waited...for our sanity.

Near the end of this long, cold wait, we started to see the light as we crept up on the corner right in front of the entrance. Part of the line was inside where we could take some refuge from the weather and know we were truly close to getting these long anticipated burgers!

As soon as you walk in, the register is right there up front where you place your order. I went with the One Night Stand which consists of a plant based burger, vegan bacon, vegan American style cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and their special sauce on a Hawaiian bun. Literally salivating just thinking about it! I also couldn’t resist one of the mini sweet potato pies (also vegan, of course) they had as an extra treat, made by First Batch Artisan Foods.

Once we were inside (defrosting from the cold) the wait was about another 20 minutes, which at that point wasn’t too bad at all. The hardest part was being able to actually smell the food now as part of the buildup. All over the restaurant you’ll find funny phrases and sayings advocating for a vegan lifestyle.

Unfortunatley, there’s no dine-in space in the actual restaurant. It’s a grab and go situation, so be aware of that as well. Once we received our food, we headed home to see if these burgers lived up to the hype! All burgers come with a side of fries and it may be hard to tell from the picture, but you definitely get a good amount of food for the price.

All that ooey, gooey goodness on top of the patty is a combo of the cheese, special sauce, grilled onions and bacon. Everything else was underneath the patty. I will say that after that first bite...we totally understood what everyone had been saying. Not one single aspect of this burger was underwhelming! Everything blended so well together to give you that savory, flavorful, grilled burger experience sandwiched between a not-too-sweet Hawaiin bun. Whatever is in that special sauce really added a nice touch too. The fries had just the right amount of crisp on the outside and were perfectly salted without being too much. Honestly, if you gave one of these burgers to someone that eats meat, I highly doubt they’d even realize it was a vegan burger! After thoroughly devouring the One Night Stand, I can say that it was hands down the best burger I have ever had (yes, including back when I used to eat meat) and I’ve had several different veggie burgers over the past 8 years or so.

Now that sweet potato pie was also quite a treat! I warmed it up a bit and had it with some vegan ice cream I had on hand. Perfect combo. The pie is also just the right portion size to keep you from putting yourself in a total food coma.

Slutty Vegan does have a more expansive menu from the four sandwiches shown on the in-store menu, but I believe they limit it to certain ones each day. For the full menu and hours visit their website and visit them on social media. Now do yourself a favor and make sure you check them out. You won’t be disappointed and it was worth the wait!!

Enjoy your weekend and some good food, friends!
