Melanin Haircare review

I, like many others, was so excited to try this new brand! Prior to getting a protective style put in, I had been usingMelanin Haircare’s Twist Elongating cream as part of my weekly wash day routine. This company is new to the game but it’s creator is not. Whitney White aka Naptural85 has been a natural hair vlogger for the last decade. She is well known in the natural hair community (one of my faves) and it’s great to see her start this new venture! Her and her sister have been creating their products for the past 6 years and recently launched Melanin Haircare.

I decided to incorporate their Twist Elongating Cream to my usual wash day flow. It typically goes in the following order: cleansing, deep conditioner, quick conditioner, leave-in, cream styler, then air dry. I started with week-old hair that was styled in a twist-out and stretched via bun styles throughout the week. In the shower I cleansed my hair, applied a deep conditioner (hopped out to let it sit covered for about 20-30 mins), rinsed, conditioned and then rinsed again.

Once out of the shower, I applied my leave-in conditioner in 8 sections, then the Twist Elongating Cream on top of that one section at a time. On the label they suggest using the product with your favorite leave-in conditioner, however, after using it I don't think it is necessary. For my go-to twist-out, I braid at the root and then two-strand twist the rest of the way down. The consistency of this cream is just that—creamy, smooth and it distributes seamlessly throughout the hair. If you needed any extra help with detangling after washing, this cream would be useful for that too as you prep to style your hair. Although it’s packed with great ingredients including several butters, it’s surprisingly lightweight. As for the scent, it’s just the light, natural scent of the butters and oils in the product itself, which keeps it nice and simple. No added fragrances in this one so if you’re sensitive to strong aromas, no worries there!

Nice and juicy twists after application!
I let my twists air dry throughout the evening and overnight. The next morning they were fully dry and ready to be taken out. When I took down the twists I loved the results! My twist out was so soft, fluffy, moisturized and defined all without feeling weighed down....What more could you ask for from a twist out??

Post-Deva Cut twist out results using Melanin Haircare (don't mind the "smize" LOL) Still loving it!:

The definition and moisture retention I received lasted throughout the week until my next wash day. As an added bonus...A little goes a long way with this cream, so for a 16oz jar with high quality ingredients it's truly an awesome deal. This jar can easily last you months depending on how much and how often you use it (of course this varies depending on how much hair you have). As you can see below, I've almost cleaned out my jar and that’s after a couple months of use. Next time I'll be adding their Multi-Use Pure Oil Blend to my order to add that extra oomph and shine to my twist out. For all my naturals out there, I highly recommend you give Melanin Haircare a try, you won't be disappointed!
