Curlbox review: Her Essentials by camille rose naturals

I recently took out my box braids and was desperately in need of a thorough wash day. It was finally time to dive into my Her Essentials Curlbox! I’ve been using Camille Rose Naturals products for about 6 or 7 years now and my hair has always responded well. So whenever Curlbox links up with them, I know it's going to be a low-risk, unbeatable deal! In total it came with 5 full-sized items. However, for this particular wash day I used the Restorative Deep Conditioner, Nourishing Cowash and Absorbent Detangling Lotion.

I started with my own DIY cleansing clay wash. Since it had been so long since my hair had a good deep clarifying wash, I felt like this was a good first step for my hair.

Restorative Deep Conditioner
Once my hair was clean, I applied the deep conditioner in small sections throughout my hair. To me the scent smells like a semi-sweet cocoa butter—like a dessert for the hair! It’s not overpowering at all. The consistency of this conditioner was just the kind my hair loves—thick, rich and creamy. It spread through the hair seamlessly and is great for detangling as well. I left the deep conditioner in for an hour under a cap and then rinsed with cool water. As you can see from the picture below, my curls took to it really well!

Don't mind the sleepy eyes, clearly I should have napped while the deep conditioner was in! Anyway, after rinsing the conditioner out with cool water, my hair felt rejuvenated, moisturized and bouncy. Success!

Nourishing Cowash
Next
was the cowash which is a bit thinner in consistency than the deep conditioner. It does not have as much detangling power as the deep conditioner, at least not for my hair. It works well as a cowash and would be good for refreshing the hair as needed in between longer wash days. My hair felt clean without feeling stripped of moisture after rinsing it out. Now bear with me, but this one to me smells like a fresh cup of tea with honey—Okay, if I totally lost you there, that means you’re probably not obsessed with herbal teas the way I am. It really does smell like tea though, which I love! Nettle leaf is one of the ingredients so I'm sure it's mostly from that. In other words, imagine something that smells herbal and bright.

Absorbent Detangling Hair Lotion
Once my hair was cleansed and deep conditioned, I applied the hair lotion to soaking wet hair. Per usual, this was applied in small sections to ensure thorough coverage and achieve the style I was looking for which was just a simple twist-out. This one has a scent that is a little more earthy, but in a great way. Think of a mix of slightly fruity and bark....which sounds odd, but it works and has a light fresh scent. I let my hair air dry for about an hour before twisting because I didn't want to go to bed with fully drenched hair. I then two strand twisted my hair using only the detangling lotion. I wanted to see how it would work alone if used as a styler. Once it was all twisted up, I covered it with a satin scarf and went to bed, letting my hair fully air dry overnight.

The next morning, I added a few drops of organ oil to my hands before taking the twists down. My twist-out turned out light, fluffy and soft. Just what I was looking for! I wasn't expecting this must definition from a hair lotion/leave-in, but I loved it. I think the next time I use this leave-in, I may mix it with some of their Aloe Whipped Butter Gel for a bit more hold and see how those two work together.

Overall, I’m loving this line so far. It performed well, has all natural ingredients, it’s cruelty free and smells bomb as an added bonus. Yet another awesome deal from Curlbox. I don’t believe this particular line from Camille Rose Naturals is available to the masses yet, but keep your eyes open for when it drops!
